'Heart of Gold' is a playful exploration of the concepts of money, consumerism and greed by Jordan Metcalf and Daniel Ting Chong. Following on the form of their previous project Fear.Less, the artists have played with scale and medium to re-contextualise consumer-based iconography and lexicon as art. The pieces are stark, sleek and graphic, using limited colour palettes and diverse mediums such as glass, paper, wood and ceramic.

I was commissioned to create a series of typographic illustrations and corresponding '&'s for a campaign promoting Adobe's social, marketing, and analytics software. The illustrations dramatise popular myths and perceptions related to those fields.
The treatments were used in a variety of digital and printed executions. Several of the executions were also translated into German and French for use in Europe

Cover for April edition of the Denver City magazine, 5280. The client wanted the cover to have a spritual/positive feel with custom type that was a modernised reference to old religious texts. I also did a custom treatment to the masthead to tie in with the design.

I was asked by Popular Mechanics to do a type based design for the cover of their 110th Anniversary Edition. After an initial round of ideas we settled on a style that was a modern spin on the decorative printing styles from the era the magazine was conceived in. This is the final design I sent them, but the final colours were tweaked by the client before going to print to maxamise shelf impact. I will update the project with a photo of the printed cover once I get a copyGraphic Design, Typography, Illustration2012 -
At the end of 2011 I was asked to pitch on the identity for an internal international Nike conference. Unfortunately my work never went past the pitch stage. These are some of the initial explorations as well as the final pitch treatment.Typography, Branding, Illustration2012 -
Fear.Less is a collaborative project between Daniel Ting Chong & Jordan Metcalf. The objects are all representative of weapons/items used in acts of crime in South Africa, both by criminal and the law.
The objects seek to playfully examine the place of fear and crime in South Africa context, framing our obsession with violence and the casual paranoia we all seem to suffer from. By scaling the objects and turning them into artworks, the artists aim to re-contextualise the place these items hold in our everyday lives.
Several different production methods were used to create the final wooden objects.

Each book in the edition of 250 was lovingly and pain-stakingly screen-printed, cut and bound by hand by the awesome people at Warren Editions.
Included are photos of the book, process images as well as the original paintings that were scanned and used to expose the high mesh screens used to print the books.

I was invited to do a solo show at Wolves in Johannesburg, South Africa. I produced a range on type and image based pieces in various mediums including layered, laser engraved & die cut wood, lino cuts, scratch board illustrations and ink paintings.
I tend to forget to properly scan and document work before sending it to shows, so this is mainly a collection of random photos, detail shots and process images.Illustration, Typography, Painting2011 -
